Presentation slides & Conclusion

Conclusion

In conclusion i would like to state that in the process of this experiment i've encountered some difficulties and technical issues, such as the video cant be played, metaio kept crashing and some of the previous videos could not be uploaded into cloud. I have searched for ways to solve those problems online, also asked for Mr.Muzamir's guidance when i am lost. Through out the whole experiment process, i realize that my strength in this project is more into illustration, online tutorial research and some video editing. Not to forget my own weakness that i realized. In technical skills area i am weak, for example whenever i encountered some technical issues with metaio i would have no idea how to solve it, i had to ask around my peers who are using metaio and online research as well to solve my problem. I am also weak in video production, in my opinion that is one of my weakest area but Mr.Muzamir disagree on that. Lastly, this is the worst habit that i have, lack of time management which wont give any benefit to this project or any future project. Thanks to this experiment i learned how to use metaio way better than i did in day 1 when it was introduced to me and my video production and editing skills have increased, even though it's only a little but i learned something. Also, thanks to the video tutorials online that have taught me a lot of cool effects that can be used for After Effects and Premiere Pro as well. In the future if i am given the chance to do something with AR with a proper time length and tools i would gladly participate

Actor | Character

These are my reference as how my character going to look like. A coat with long sleeve collared shirt inside with a fedora hat to give that detective aura or looks.

And this is how my actor looks like:-

Izzat Emir as The Detective. Briefing on to the players about the game.

SOLUTION FOUND!!!

It was the wi-fi connection all along! Taylor's i-xcess is just too slow to load the video. I tried doing it at home with my own wi-fi and the video could load, a full screen video. Now the other problem that i have to face is how am i going to present my work in taylor's if it can't load there. I might have to try 3G and see if it works. Below are the screenshots:-

Try & Error

Since in-page video and screen video could not load, i tried using youtube video. I copied and pasted the link of the video and scan the image track and junaio went straight to the youtube video and it can be played. Even though it works and the video is playable it's not what i want. If i cant find the solution for the in-page video/screen video to work i might have to use this way. Heres the screenshots of the trial:-

Metaio technical difficulties

I uploaded a video from my desktop to metaio and scan the image that i have set for image track, the image was scannable but the video couldn't be played. Then i tried for a shorter video which is 6seconds long but still it wont load. It'll show a black loading screen and poof the video wouldn't play. So i told Mr.Muzamir about it and he told me to try and use the video that metaio gave. When you download the software and install it, theres multiple folders in it and there are videos and etc. So i used that video and uploaded it into metaio, used the same image for image track, scanned it waited for it to load, the same result. The video wont play. So i asked my friend adrian to use his phone to scan and see the results, it'll only work on the first scan, but after that the video won't play. Below are some screenshots:-

StoryBoard

The player will be given a paper which is the report of the crime scene that he/she is about to solve. On that paper there will be an image trace for the player to scan. Once it's scanned, a video of your fellow detective partner will be played on your phone. He will brief you on the murder case and what they know so far. The wound on the girl's body is a stab wound and the weapon was not found and they need your help to search the area where the body was found for the weapon. The knife is somewhere in the area, you need it to get to another clue. Once you found the knife, below the hilt there will an image trace pasted on. Scan it and a video will appear.

A video of a 1st person view will be played on your phone. A video of the murderer recording himself stabbing the victim while laughing and the victim will fall and the video is still recording. The player have to be alert when watching this video, the clue in this video is the place where she was stabbed, it is not where the body was found. Watch the video carefully and the player will know which room she was killed in. The player have to go to the room to investigate further. Before entering the room above the doorknob there will be an image trace for the player to scan. Scan it and a short video will be played. It'll show the victim is tied to a chair and her mouth covered with a white cloth. Those two items are the next clue, the player have to enter the room to search for it. Both item will have an image trace for the player to scan, but the player can only scan one of the item.

If the player scan the image trace on the rope, it will play a video a man wearing a cap, tying the girl to a chair. The clue is the cap, search for the man with the cap around the area and once the player captured him, there will be another image trace on his shirt for the player to scan. Scan it and a video message will be played saying that the player have failed to capture the real suspect, you only captured the assistant only. It is Game Over. If the player scan the cloth, a first person video will be played, the suspect is recording the girl while laughing sinisterly. He grabs the girl's hair and start to stab her. After stabbing her he pushed the girl down on the floor and laugh then turn around the camera to show his face, smiling into the camera and that man is the player's partner. The player have to search for his partner and capture him. WON THE GAME!

Solve the murder case (idea/storyline)

You have been given a case to solve. Even though your partner is on the case, they need your help to solve it. The office gives you a paper which is the report of the case, on the report there is a marker for you to scan. Scan the marker that is on the paper, a video of your partner will appear. He will brief you on the case and what they have covered so far. A girl was murdered in Taylor's Lakeside campus. They found a wound on the body, it was a knife wound, the victim was stabbed multiple times but they couldn't find the knife. This is where you come in and help, search the area for the knife and it will lead you to another clue. Once you've found the knife, there will be a marker on the knife which you have to scan. After you scan it, a video in first person view of the murderer stabbing the victim, but the place that she was stabbed wasn't where the body was found. Watch the video carefully and know where exactly she was murdered. Go to that area and before you enter the room there will be scanner for you to scan, scan it and a video of the victim being tied to a chair and her mouth covered with a cloth and the voice of the murderer talking to her and the video will end. To know what happen after, you have to enter the room and find any clues that you can find. In the room there will be 2 object, one is the cloth that was used to cover the victim's mouth and the other one is the rope that was used to tie her on the chair. Those 2 objects are scannable, but you can only scan one of them because if you scan the cloth the rope will be unscannable and vice versa. Now, if you scan the cloth it will lead you to the suspect and immediately you have to find him and catch him. After you catch him, you realize that on his shirt there is a marker, scan it and a video will be played, the video will say "The real suspect is still out there" You only caught the one who helped the primary suspect, basically it's a game over. If you scan the rope however, the video will show you a mysterious man with a familiar voice talking to the victim then the video will be cut and continued right after the man killed the victim, you will hear him laughing and as he grabs the camera his face was shown. It's a very familiar face, it's your very own partner who is the murderer, he was the real killer.

Research @ ESCAPE ROOM

The Room Escape game is a unique and interactive experience where a group of people find mysterious clues based on various story lines to solve live puzzles and ultimately escape the room within a time limit, last time it was 1 hour but now they reduced it to 45 minutes. Players are encouraged to work together as a team to solve puzzles collaboratively, and the Game Master(staff) directs gameplay to add a touch of drama to the story. The uniqueness of the game is that you are physically inside the story.

Dungeon of doom experience, the game master will handcuff and blindfold you. They will escort you into a room, uncuff and unblindfolded you and leave you. Next, the game master will give you a sentence which is a riddle to the clue. You were given an hour to escape. Once you solve the riddle, it will lead you to a combination codes to unlock the door. After you unlocked it, you will be in another room which is really dark, there you're given one small fluorescent light, in that room there are many numbers on the wall, but you need the light to see it. Out of all those numbers there's only one code which is the true code. Escape within the time limit. That was the storyline for that game.

Sherlock Inspiration for storyline

I've been researching different  types of detective series/movies. The one that caught me the most is Sherlock, the BBC series. There was this specific scene where he was solving a murder, there was a dead man lying down on the ground with a wound at the back of his head. First what he would do is that he would look at the surrounding area for clues to determine exactly what and how it happened. Now this is the interesting part:-

The scene above, sherlock was in his "mind palace". Mind palace is when Sherlock is deep in his thoughts. Now back to the scene above, Sherlock was solving the murder in his mind palace with all the clues and information that he have gathered and they were connected. Basically it is almost the same concept with my idea for this Augmented Reality game. A clue which leads to another clue to solve the puzzle. The clues that i'm giving out is in a video form, the user can view it and in the video there are hints on where the next clue is. All i need now is to write a really good storyline for this project and so can start with it.

Presentation Feedback

There is no storyline/content in my project. I'm just presenting the idea with no content. What is the story? How is the game going to be like? What's the start, climax and ending of the game? What clues am i giving out?

What i have to do

Research more games then can help me write out the storyline of the game
